Rotarians visit SKMCH
Rotarians from Lahore visited Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) on Wednesday.
According to a press release here on Wednesday, Naila Khan, Manager Marketing, conducted a tour of the hospital where she informed Rotary Club members about the history of the hospital and how the dream of a free cancer hospital for the poor patients became a reality. The Rotarians were happy to see the state of the art equipment at the hospital. They were glad to know that once a patient enters the hospital system, no one knows whether the patient is paying the expenses himself or someone else has sponsored his treatment expenses. The visit was followed by a seminar, where District Governor Nominee Shehzad Ahmed informed the audience about different funding opportunities available for humanitarian projects. He announced that he would formally adopt the hospital during his tenure and invited Rotarians to carry out service projects in the hospital. He also thanked the hospital management for arranging the visit and seminar.
Dr Faisal Sultan, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, gave an overview of the facilities and informed that treatment of more than 70% patients is fully or partially sponsored by philanthropists. He informed that 40 hospitals of this magnitude are required to treat all cancer patients in the country while there is only one complete Cancer Hospital (SKMCH&RC) is available here for them. He offered his full support to Rotarians for carrying out joint humanitarian projects in the hospital. The participants showed their keen interest by asking pertinent questions.
The visit was organized by Rotary Club of Lahore Garrison. Aslam Chaudhry, Mubarik Ali, Masrur Lodhi, Kashif Khan, Raza Jaffri, Shahid Bukhari and other notable Rotarians They all expressed their desire to work with the hospital management for bringing further improvements in the system.
